Holy Week and Lent

Molfetta’s Holy Week is one of the city’s defining cultural systems. It involves confraternities, churches, processional statuary, funeral marches, families, and visitors.

A regional Holy Week calendar for 2026 included Molfetta-linked entries such as:

Mercoledì delle Ceneri — Processione della Croce, Chiesa del Purgatorio, by the Arciconfraternita della Morte dal Sacco Nero;
Venerdì di Passione — Processione dell’Addolorata from the Cattedrale;

Madonna dei Martiri and Sagra a Mare

The Festa della Madonna dei Martiri is Molfetta’s most important public feast. The key day is 8 September, centred on the Sagra a mare, when the Madonna is carried in relation to the sea, boats, mariners, and port space.

For the 2025 programme, the day opened with music by the Gran Complesso Bandistico “Santa Cecilia – Città di Molfetta” and the Bassa Musica Città di Molfetta. The official cortege left from the Comitato Feste Patronali on Corso Dante toward Banchina Seminario; the Madonna was scheduled to leave the Basilica at 15:00, embark on fishing boats at 16:30, return near the Duomo in early evening, enter the Cattedrale, and close with fireworks at 23:30.[2]

This feast is both religious and civic. It usually affects:

waterfront and port circulation;
city-centre crowds;
fireworks and band music;
food, stalls, and family visits;
diaspora return visits.

Molfetta Summer Edition

The municipal summer calendar is one of the main frameworks for non-religious programming. The Molfetta Summer Edition 2025 was approved by the municipal government with more than €85,000 in funding, 37 selected events, and programming from 1 August to 30 September, including music, theatre, territorial promotion, and children’s activities.[3]

Festa della Musica

Molfetta participates in the broader Festa della Musica cycle around 21 June. For 2026, the national Festa della Musica portal listed “ARENNE – La voce del mare”, a project by Mizio Vilardi with APS Melphicta nel Passato, inspired by the national theme “La voce dei luoghi.” It connected music, historical evocation, sea memory, work, devotion, and the Madonna dei Martiri setting.[4]

In Molfetta, the same event was scheduled for 21 June 2026 in the Atrio dei Pellegrini della Basilica Madonna dei Martiri, with free entry and live music.[5]

Theatre, Outdoor Shows and Local Stages

Notte Bianca della Poesia

Molfetta All Inclusive

Molfetta All Inclusive is a late-June inclusion and social-event format. The 2026 edition, from 25 to 27 June, was the third consecutive year of the event, promoted by the volunteer organization Contasudinoi. The programme included shows, discussions, workshops, sport moments, inclusive sailing, guests such as Giulia Lamarca and Erica Mou, activities at Cala Sant’Andrea, piazzale Madonna dei Martiri, the Basilica cloister, and Piazza Municipio.[8]

Sport Events

AllenaMenti Meeting

Sport is part of the civic calendar, not only club life. The AllenaMenti Meeting returned in June 2026 for its seventh edition at the Stadio Mario Saverio Cozzoli, with events from youth categories to adult athletes, FIDAL and FISDIR athletes competing together, Team Italia FISDIR relay activity, free entry, and a sport/show format.[9]

This is one of the clearest examples of a recurring Molfetta sport event with an inclusion dimension.

Weekly Market

The weekly market is part of the city’s ordinary calendar rather than a festival. The Mercato Settimanale is listed on Thursday mornings, but market locations and arrangements should be verified locally because ordinances, works, holidays, and weather can change schedules.

Mercatino di San Nicola

The Mercatino di San Nicola is a December seasonal-market event. The 2025 edition was scheduled for 3, 4 and 5 December, with more than 50 stands and spaces along Via S. Pio X, Via Gen. Saverio Calò, Via M. Tridente and Via Papa Innocenzo XIII.[10]

This is a typical example of Molfetta’s seasonal commerce: crafts, colours, food smells, neighbourhood streets, and family-oriented holiday activity.

For Holy Week and Madonna dei Martiri, expect processions, crowding, changed road access, and long time windows.
For summer events, check official annual calendars; many shows are free, but some theatre/dance events may require tickets.
