Utilities-System Overview

Utilities in Molfetta are split across municipal, regional, and market actors:

1. Waste and urban hygiene — handled locally by ASM Molfetta, the municipal-services company.
2. Water, sewerage, and wastewater treatment — part of the regional Acquedotto Pugliese (AQP) system.
3. Electricity and gas — separated between regulated network operators/distributors and commercial suppliers chosen by users.
4. Municipal environment and disservice reporting — handled by Comune offices, especially the Servizio Ambiente e Protezione Civile and the general “Segnala disservizio” channel.
5. Waste taxation — TARI is managed by the Comune’s local-tax area, while the physical collection service is provided by ASM.

The main practical distinction is: call the service operator for operational faults, but use Comune channels for municipal disservices, TARI, local environmental policy, and unresolved civic issues.

Waste Collection and Urban Hygiene: ASM Molfetta

The core waste operator is ASM - Azienda Servizi Municipalizzati Molfetta, which provides public and private services for urban cleanliness and environmental health, with tools for differentiated collection, collection-zone maps, an ecological island, bulky-waste booking, and recycling instructions.[1]

The captured ASM data showed a raccolta differenziata percentage of 70.95%.[1]

Door-to-Door Collection and Zones

ASM provides a collection-zone map and calendars for users to identify the correct differentiated-collection schedule for their area.[1] Separate PDFs for different zones and user types indicate that collection is not one-size-fits-all; households, food-related non-domestic users, and industrial-zone users may follow different calendars.[4]

The practical rule is to verify the current ASM calendar for the user’s specific zone and user category before relying on any fixed weekday pattern.

Bulky Waste and Durable Goods

ASM offers a free bulky-waste home collection service for “beni durevoli dismessi” / ingombranti. Users can book by calling 800 139323 or 080 3387574 during service hours, or by emailing portaaporta@asmmolfetta.it.[5]

The free pickup covers up to 5 pieces, with each item weighing no more than 20 kg, for a total maximum of 100 kg.[5]

Abandoned bulky waste should be reported to ASM for removal and, where identifying evidence exists, to Polizia Municipale for enforcement.[6]

TARI: Waste Tax and User Relations

The physical waste service is provided by ASM, but TARI is a municipal tax used to cover costs for the collection and disposal of urban or urban-assimilated waste.[3]

TARI is due from anyone who holds or uses premises or uncovered areas, for any use, with joint liability among household members or people who share the surfaces.[3]

For 2025, the municipal council and executive approved payment of the first three instalments on account and a final balance after approval of rules for the social bonus. The provincial environmental-protection and hygiene levy fixed by the Metropolitan City of Bari is applied at 4%.[3]

The Area Fiscalità Locale is responsible for tariff management and user relations, while ASM provides collection/disposal service.[3]

Abandoned Waste and Municipal Reporting

The “Segnala disservizio” service handles reports of problems inside the municipal territory. Anyone can submit a report by indicating the location, describing the problem, and attaching images or documents. The email route is affari.generali@comune.molfetta.ba.it, and the Comune phone is 080 244 62 26.[7]

For abandoned waste specifically, the green number 800 01 73 83 and municipal emails have been provided for reporting rifiuti abbandonati.[8] Because that notice dates from 2017, operational use should be checked against current Comune and ASM pages.

Water, Sewerage, and Wastewater: Acquedotto Pugliese

Molfetta’s water and sewerage services belong to the wider Acquedotto Pugliese system.

The toll-free number for faults and emergency intervention is 800 735 735, active 24 hours a day.[9]

This number should be used for:

• leaks;
• water and sewer faults;
• meter faults;
• breakages, service disruption, irregularity, or interruption of supply;
• alteration of water potability.[9]

For non-emergency customer-care issues, the Contact Center number is 800 085 853 and, from mobile phones, +39 080 572 3498. Written complaints, information requests, and billing corrections can be sent by PEC to clienti@pec.aqp.it or through other AQP channels.[10]

Sewerage and Depuration

The sewerage service covers management, maintenance, and sanitation of black-sewer networks across the territory.[11]

Depuration is the treatment of urban wastewater from homes or equivalent sources. Wastewater is treated in depurators through phases including pre-treatment, biological treatment, final sedimentation, filtration, and disinfection before return to the environment.[12]

For Molfetta, this means water service should be understood as a full integrated water cycle: potable-water supply, sewerage, fault handling, and wastewater treatment are linked through AQP rather than managed directly by the Comune.

Electricity

Electricity service is divided between:

• the distribution network operator, responsible for network faults, meters, and interruptions;
• the commercial supplier, chosen by the customer for billing and contract matters.

For distribution-network faults and information, e-distribuzione uses the national number 803 500 for faults, danger situations, and assistance on practices in progress.[13]

Users should not confuse the distributor with their electricity seller. For a blackout, meter danger, or grid fault, use the distributor channel; for invoices, tariffs, switching, or contracts, contact the supplier shown on the bill.

Gas

Gas service similarly separates emergency distribution issues from commercial supply. For gas emergencies, the key principle is to call the pronto intervento gas number printed on the bill or on local distributor information.

800 900 999 is the Italgas emergency-intervention number for gas smell, suspected leak, sudden gas absence, or irregular flow.[14] Users should verify the local distributor on their own bill before relying on a general web result.

In case of gas smell or suspected leak:

• do not use flames;
• do not switch electrical devices on or off near the suspected leak;
• ventilate if safe;
• leave the area if necessary;
• call the gas emergency number.

Comune Environment Office
